It Was Written?

Okay so let’s talk destiny my good people.

You hear people say all the time that ‘All things happen for a reason’ and it’s pretty damn easy to explain away things with that little saying but is it true?

I’m not so sure.

When someone is killed tragically…..especially a child…(hit by a car, stray bullet, falling ice even!) ‘All things happen for a reason’ does not do it for me.

Im a firm believer in ‘Life is what you make it’. I think we have more control over our lives and the things that transpire in it than we give ourselves credit for. So destiny? Ehhh…..Im not so convinced. It’s all a balancing act really. The universe runs off of the concept of balance. You got joy and pain. Hot and cold. High and low. Rain and sunshine. I can go on but you get the point, right? We need both of those things. Just like we need both skill and luck. You gotta know when to push and when to pull. When to take the lead and when to let things fall into place. Balance I say!!!!

Are you meant to be with the person you are with? Are you destined to be with a certain someone you have yet to meet? Is that career you are in or seeking what was preordained for you? I cant really say for sure, but I do know this : You cant sit on your hands and let life happento you. You have to be proactive and grab it by the pubic hairs if you have to! A tad excessive that line might’ve been, but it surely drives home the point Im trying to make.

Your happiness and fulfillment is up to you. Its great to have faith and to believe, but ultimately it falls upon you.

Write your own destiny!

good job Teej. i’m with you on this one (including the pubic hairs comment, which was pretty funny. but what if life shaves it’s pubes??…) anyway, i think that saying “everything happens for a reason” is used sometimes as a band-aid in bad situations. then again, maybe it is the universe’s way of waking us up…

either way, life IS what we make it and with that being said we should make it GOOD!! :)

I feel what you’re saying on this TJ. I think too many people confuse destiny with reality. I call it the “Fallacy of Reality” because I know someone who has no drive and thinks things are going to just happen for him without him doing any work… how is that? How can you get a job if you don’t fill out the application, follow through, etc. He feels that his credentials will have people beating down his door… Here we are 2 years later and he is still out of work… I’m sending this to him because I always say you gotta take the initiative and grab those damn “pubic hairs”!!!! LOL

Thanks for sharing TJ we appreciate it!!!

Very good TJ, almost as good as the F#$K Rants. I believe in a combination of both!

TeeJ, I’m feeling you on this one!!! And I agree with LaShaundra. With Life, “YOU” have to take responsibilty where it goes, I do understand things sometimes happen for a reason (but not when it comes to tragic deaths), and certain People are Placed in your life For A Reason, A Season and A Lifetime.

That job “You” may have, was it meant for “You” or “You” just do this to pay the bills, and if “You” feel that you deserve much better, did “You” take the initiative, to search for another position, switch career paths or prepare yourself and practice your craft for that job that was meant for “You”.

Relationships goes the same way, sometimes the guys I had previously dated and it didn’t work out, I would always ask myself, was he placed before me for a reason? Sometimes I believe that Yes, they were, to make me realizeI’m better than and he wasn’t suitable for me.

Last thing, You do have to step out on Faith and Believe, in other words, Yes there is always a given plan that our Maker has for each and everyone of us, BUT!! You can not go through life thinking GOD has “YOU” and you’ll just wait on GOD…NO doesn’t work that way. “You” still have to get off your butt, and make somethings happen, as long as you putting in the hard work, GOD knows that and “You” will begin to see, your happiness and fulfillment.

Well, Beyonce always says that she was “chosen” for her success, I’ve heard other big successes say the same. Look at the group Brutha or B5, super talented, super hard workers, still no megahits, no superstardom status…. Sometimes I just don’t believe I can control my life. I also believe our parents can ruin it for us as well by doing evil things in their heydays.

Some people can’t control their destiny, no matter how hard they try. You can go on forever debating this….

As for relationships, HOW MANY of us have f*cked things up with the ones they KNEW were perfect for us just because of our own greed & selfishness? That person moves on, so if it was Destiny, then we’ve altered that??

Well, for one–if we are talking about balance, we can’t continue to have life created and birth, without having people transition into death. People just see death as such a horrible thing. It’s horrible for those of us left behind who will miss the person, but sometimes I think there is something beyond this life we think is so great here on earth. Therefore, dying isn’t really birth’s horrible opposite. It’s just it’s balance.

For two, everything does happen for a reason, even death. No, the death of a child doesn’t seem ‘fair’. But, I’ve seen deaths change people for the better, bring people closer, give people a purpose in life, and more. There is always a reason even if you refuse to see and acknowledge it. But, hey…just my .77 cents.

Maktub. Right on time TJ! This was the theme of convo w/friends recently, too. Since “It is Written” has been tossed around with out clear understanding, this is where it originates for me- By one of the wisest kings on the Earth (via my Faith) actually has it Written:

    Ecclesiastes 9:10-12 (NIV)

10 Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might, for in the grave, where you are going, there is neither working nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom.

11 I have seen something else under the sun:
The race is not to the swift
or the battle to the strong,
nor does food come to the wise
    or wealth to the brilliant
    or favor to the learned;
But Time and Chance happen to them all.

12 Moreover, no man knows when his hour will come:
As fish are caught in a cruel net,
or birds are taken in a snare,
so men are trapped by evil times
    that fall unexpectedly upon them.
