Spring’s Show Stopping Trends

bby-ph

The frenetic energy of spring was in the air during New York Fashion Week. A standout of the week was the Baby Phat show, which generated more energy than the tents can contain! Therefore, the 10 Year Anniversary Show was held at Roseland Ballroom. With a decade under their belt, a star studded front row (the flutter of flashing lights announced the likes of Serena Williams and Andre Leon Talley) and a staggering amount of global fashion media presence, brands like Baby Phat have enabled the worlds of urban fashion to high fashion to merge. For those of us who have watched “urban fashion” evolve from the early days of Cross Colors, this is a proud moment!

This spring, the hottest trends are found in brands that range from couture, to urban, to mass market. From Louis Vuitton to H&M you can find these trends at every price point.

Bold Graphic Prints

This season’s prints are bolder, brighter and in your face. The print is the statement. If you want to turn heads, embrace this trend. Many incorporate another trend, Mix and Match Patterns, which takes it to another level.

Black and White Prints

This is always a very clean look that transitions well from day to night. Add a bright “pop” color accessory for a little fun!

Relax-Fit Pants

Skinny jeans and wide-legs have been replaced by a new silhouette - the relax-fit pant. They are loose, comfortable and very forgiving.

Mix-and-Match Patterns

Mix & Match is nothing new to women (and men) who take risks. Now that is on trend, thanks to shows like Gossip Girl and Sex and the City, you will see it everywhere.

Sequins

A well-constructed sequined garment goes along way. They never really go out of style, and they always bring a wow factor. Quality is key here, so the investment is worth it. Sequins are no longer reserved for eveningwear and formals. The mini’s featured here are perfect for a summer night out. Pieces like the Peter Som tank featured below, pair well with jeans for a semi-casual look.

Caftans

caftens

The updated caftan is tapered at the waist, for a better fit. They are luxurious and look great on almost every body type. Many have a deep plunging neckline, showing off just enough…

One-Shouldered Dresses and Tops

Our 1st Lady was very current in her one-shouldered Jason Wu gown on Inauguration night. This is one of the season’s biggest trends. So big that it has carried over to swimwear.  This look is sensual, sophisticated and flattering. It is the “must have” of the season.

Part II of “Spring’s Show Stopping Trends” features…

Oversize Necklaces & Bangles, The New Vest, Neons, New Shapes, and Monochromatics.

Until then, Stay Fabulous!!
